Large Urn with Stonehenge Glaze, 2019, terra cotta, 14 x 8.5 inches.

I traveled to Stonehenge for the 2019 Spring Equinox gathering. It is believed that Stonehenge was built as a sacred site to honor the ancestors and connect to a higher reality. It is situated in the Salisbury Plateau, which is a chalk plane. The site is surrounded by miles of farmland and the loose earth is full of chalk and flint. I collected some of these stones where the site meets the farmland along the solstice line, the original processional entrance. I came home, ground the chalk, and added it to a majolica white base glaze. This is the first urn of this series - more coming soon.
